Poem
Athletes sprint like hamsters on a wheel Mile after mile, to outrun insecurity As Patagonia peacocks prance down main avenue Money is the bandage covering social wounds An illusion of fulfillment, a reality of emptiness A supplement of building pressure Strava is used as a mirror to reflect self worth A mask of perfectionism, concealing discontent Phony artists create scenes of idealistic life Applying layers of paint to cover a blank canvas Citizens strive for the finest ranking, seeking all new accessories With egos guarded by possessions, like a clam guarded by it’s shell Trains carry wide eyed visitors gaping at scenic altitude Day trippers flood the economy with wads of gold tickets The town is an impenetrable bubble, An ignorant snowglobe of bliss, Sheltering flakes from the rest of the world |

The Model United Nations exhibition was our second project in 10th grade humanities, in which each student chose a different country t research and represent at the conference. Students were given small assignments to guide their research, and to prepare them for accurately representing a country during a large conference between classmates, regarding a chosen current issue. The issue for this conference was the Humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan. |
The first project in 10th grade humanities is the Adolescence project. We studied the different aspects and development of adolescence, and read several texts and and gathered information from many different sources. Each student then chose one aspect of adolescence, and created an essay and an artistic mask to display their own experience, and what they learned about the specific aspect. We displayed our masks and essays at an exhibition held at Animas high school. Prior to the exhibition, we worked in groups divided by relevant topics regarding adolescence, and each group created an additional physical representation of their topic to display at exhibition.

I was a project manager for the exhibition. I worked with the other project managers to organize the layout of the exhibition, and to make sure each exhibition group had everything they needed to be successful. I also oversaw the work of each group, and made sure they were on task and prepared for presenting their work. At the exhibition, I was grouped with two other project managers, and we monitored the grouping of the exhibition audience. We stood by the entrance and made sure each audience member knew where to go, and we organized people into groups to travel through the exhibition. As an exhibition manager, I contributed to the exhibition by controlling the amount of people walking through the exhibits. Me and my two other group members made sure that the exhibits weren’t crowded, and that there were enough people entering at a time. Our contributions allowed for an organized and enjoyable experience for both students and audience members. If I were to do this exhibition again, I would have liked to have more time for groups to set up and plan their exhibition presentations and roles. I felt like the students did well considering the time they were given, but another week of group project work time might have allowed for them to refine and build on their outcomes. Also, I should have been more involved in each group, in order to motivate them and help them create better displays and activities. |
